Celebrating the Postdoc Appreciation Week 2023
On September 19th, LS4FUTURE teamed up with the ITQB NOVA and iBET Postdoc Association to celebrate the Postdoc Appreciation Week, #PAWpt2023, with a roundtable discussion on the diversity of scientific careers.
The event took place at ITQB NOVA but was also streamed online to allow the participation of members of LS4FUTURE partner institutions unable to join in person. Over 70 postdoctoral researchers and PhD students joined an enriching discussion about the diversity of scientific careers. The roundtable was composed of 3 invited speakers working outside academia and a representative of the Postdoc Association.
The guest speakers, Miguel Leal (Science Crunchers), Inês Tenente (BETA-i) and Andreas Klaus (Rancho Biosciences), talked about their career paths and discussed the challenges of moving out of academia. Rute Matos, the postdoc representative, shared with the audience her experience working in an insurance company and her purposeful return to academia, as research is her passion.
The roundtable discussion focused on topics ranging from career turning points, CVs and transferrable skills to networking and appropriate keywords for job hunting in different fields. This discussion will certainly continue at upcoming LS4FUTURE events and specifically at the Career Day planned for the 7th of November.
