LS4FUTURE Partner, ITQB NOVA, Wins €1M Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Grant for Climate Neutrality Research

12/11/2024

LS4FUTURE partner ITQB NOVA has secured more than 1 million euros in funding through the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Staff Exchanges program for its innovative project exploring cellular mechanisms as potential solutions to achieve climate neutrality. This consortium, led by ITQB NOVA PIs Smilja Todorovic and Ricardo Louro, aims to unlock the hidden power of cells to tackle carbon emissions and contribute to global climate goals.

The project will focus on the action of Metalloenzymes (special type of enzymes that use metals to function), with the goal of developing new biotechnological solutions for carbon capture and storage. By studying the properties and stability of these molecules, the team hopes to pave the way for innovative strategies that can be applied across multiple industries, including agriculture, energy, and biotechnology, to reduce greenhouse gases.

This new MSCA-funded initiative brings together a global network of research institutions and industries from nine different countries, fostering international collaboration and knowledge exchange within our LS4FUTURE community. The significant grant reflects the scientific excellence at ITQB NOVA and reinforces its role as a leader in cutting-edge research with a strong societal impact.
