ITQB NOVA researchers have developed an eco-friendly method to produce a health-packed rare sugar, D-allose. This rare sugar could now be produced more efficiently and affordably, boosting its use as a non-caloric sweetener in foods and drinks, as well as in drugs and supplements with beneficial properties. The work has been published in Green Chemistry, and submitted to a patent.

CHAIN Biobank: One Year of Scientific Research Progress with Nearly 800 Samples Collected

In just one year of operation, the CHAIN Biobank collected 769 samples, including whole blood, serum, and plasma from 71 patients. This brings the total to over 41,000 available samples from more than 11,000 participants, used in research on chronic and infectious diseases.

Portuguese Diabetes Society Awards Researchers from NOVA Medical School

Two research projects from NOVA Medical School were recently awarded grants by the Portuguese Diabetes Society (SPD). These grants will enable the teams to advance new discoveries in the field of diabetology, based on fundamental, clinical, and technological research.

NOVA Medical School Full Professor wins the NOVA Research Impact Narratives Challenge 2024

Miguel Seabra, Full Professor and researcher at NOVA Medical School, was recently honored as one of the winners of the second edition of the NOVA Research Impact Narratives Challenge 2024. This initiative aims to provide all faculty and researchers at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa the opportunity to craft narratives that clearly and accessibly communicate the real impact of their research and its direct consequences for society.
