Lively conversations were the highlight of the 1st LS4FUTURE Career Day
10/11/2023
On November 7th, LS4FUTURE organized the Career Day 2023 at NOVA Medical School to showcase to our PostDoc community the diversity of professional options in life sciences within and beyond academia. Several guests with a shared academic background in the life sciences and currently holding diverse positions, from principal investigators to researchers, science communicators, managers and officers, among others, discussed their rich career paths.
Patricia Calado, Vice-Dean for Research at NOVA Medical School, kindly opened the event and briefly shared her distinct career path. The afternoon was then divided into three main sessions: “Short Talks”, “Group Speed Dating” and “Meet & Greet”. The “Short Talks” featured 4 inspiring speakers who briefly shared their professional journeys, paving the way for the following sessions. The “Group Speed Dating” promoted open and informal conversations between guests and participants. These conversations continued at the “Meet & Greet” session, where participants enjoyed the opportunity to engage with all members of the extensive guest portfolio.
The Career Day 2023 is part of LS4FUTURE’s career development initiatives, which aim to empower members of the 5 associated institutes by providing opportunities for personal and professional growth. It was a successful learning and inspirational experience where guests exchanged perspectives with our PostDocs and generously shared the motivations that guided their journey, the obstacles they encountered, and the strategies they developed to overcome them and reach their current position.
Thank you to all partner members who supported the organisation of this event, in particular, the NMS supporting staff and the student volunteers. We hope to see you in the next LS4FUTURE Career Day.
